GLYBURIDE is a type of oral medicine used by type 2 diabetic patients. The drug works by controlling the sugar levels in the blood. It is used with exercise and a proper diet to give the best results. The drug helps to reduce the risk of kidney damage, heart strokes, loss of limbs, loss of vision, sexual functioning problems. It works in the body by helping in the production of natural insulin
DOSAGE –
- Glyburide has to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- Adult and pediatric dosages: Oral Tablet: 1.25 mg; 2.5 mg; 3 mg; 4.5 mg; 6 mg Recommended dose- 2.5 mg to 5 mg once a day

PRECAUTIONS –
- This drug contains inactive ingredients which may result in allergic reactions. So a pharmacist must be consulted before consuming it.
- It is necessary to discuss any medical history related to liver problems, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, nervous system problems, insufficient hormonal conditions and electrolyte imbalance.
- Use of this drug results in dizziness and blurred vision so activities like driving and others which needs more attention should be avoided.
- Limit the use of alcoholic beverages as it increases the risk of low blood sugar and causes symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or stomach ache
- This medication makes skin sun sensitive. It is recommended to avoid tanning booths and use more sunscreen while going out.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH GLYBURIDE:
- Use of Glyburide in pregnancy may be acceptable only if the benefits exceed the risks involved.
- Studies in animal pregnancy have shown adverse effects on fetus. But no adequate studies have been found in humans to access the damage involved.
- Glyburide transfers into breast milk. Preferable precautions must be taken during breast feeding
WARNINGS –
- If the drug is used during pregnancy, it must be substituted with insulin before 2 weeks of expected delivery date.
- Do not consume this medication if you are suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis.
- This medication is not recommended safe and effective in children below 18 years old.
- Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately
