ABSTRACT –

Ditropan is a medicine which belongs to the class of drugs called as antispasmodics. It is prescribed drug which eases the bladder in case of muscle spasms. The medicine also treats the urinary tract in different conditions like intense bladder problems or frequent urination. It helps in reducing the problems caused by the bladder due to infection in urination. The medicine relaxes the symptoms of excessive urine leakage in non-continuation mode during night time.

DOSAGE –

• Ditropan has to be taken as directed by the doctors.
• The medicine is not recommended for children with age less than 5 years.
• Adult and pediatric dosages:

Tablet: 2.5 mg, 5 mg 2-3 times a day.

XL Tablet: 10 mg once a day.

Oral Syrup: 5 mg orally 2 to 3 times a day

Transdermal Patch: 3.9 mg/day applied to dry skin on hips or abdomen.

Transdermal gel: 84 mg/ day applied to dry and intact skin.

SIDE EFFECTS –

• Dry mouth
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Blurred vision
• Dry eyes
• Nausea and vomiting
• Upset stomach
• Stomach pain
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Unusual taste in mouth
• Dry/flushed skin
• Weakness

RARE SIDE EFFECTS:

• Eye Pain
• Skin Rash
• Hives
• Decreased flow of breast milk
• Decreased sexual ability
• Difficulty in swallowing

SHORT-TERM EFFECTS:

• Symptom relieve does not rule out presence of gastric malignancy
• Swelling on the face, tongue, throat majorly
• Severe dizziness
• Trouble breathing

LONG-TERM EFFECTS:

• Fast, slow, or irregular heartbeats
• Fever
• Flushing or redness in the face
• Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there)
• Dry mouth
• Constipation
• Dysuria
• Urinary retention

DRUG INTERACTIONS –

• Potassium Chloride
• Potassium Citrate
• Topiramate
• Zonisamide

Ditropan has major interactions with 4 drugs.

MODERATE DRUG INTERACTIONS –

• Aclidinium

• Betaxolol
• Bexarotene
• Biperiden
• Chlorcyclizine
• Chlorpheniramine

• Loperamide
• Penbutolol
• Pentazocine
• Trimipramine

Ditropan has moderate interactions with 200 different drugs.

PRECAUTIONS –

• If the patients consuming the medicine experience any disturbance in central nervous system, then the dosage should be reduced immediately.
• The medicine should be used with utmost care by nursing mothers.
• Older patients should take care to take only small dose because higher dosage might lead to decreased hepatic and cardiac activity

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH DITROPAN:

• Use of Ditropan in pregnancy may be acceptable only if the doctor recommends.
• Animal studies show no risk of fertility with the use of medicine but human study in pregnant women is not available.
• It is not known if Ditropan transfers into breast milk

WARNINGS –

• Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
