Generic Name : TRIAZOLAM

 

ABSTRACT –

Halcion is a benzodiazepine that alters chemicals in the brain that are responsible for sleep disturbances such as in the case of insomnia. Halcion drug is used only to treat insomnia and helps regulate sleep cycles. As a benzodiazepine, Halcion acts in a manner similar to Valium in the treatment of this sleep disorder.

DOSAGE –

  • Halcion is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Consume this drug only as prescribed to avoid overdose or other harmful effects.
  • This drug is to be taken 2 hours after dinner on an empty stomach. Halcion is only to be consumed before scheduled sleep time.
  • This drug generally takes about 7-10 nights to bring about effect. If it is not so, it is advisable to contact a doctor regarding the same.
  • General Adult Dosage available:
    Oral – 0.25mg, 0.125mg

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history
    prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses
    and conditions such as depression or other mental illnesses,
    liver/kidney disease or respiratory conditions.
  • Do not use this drug in case of an allergy to Halcion itself or
    drugs such as Xanax, clorazepate, diazepam, Lorazepam or others.
  • Inform the doctor of all the drugs being consumed so as to avoid severe drug interactions. Notify especially in case of the use of narcotics, antibiotics, antifungal/antiviral medication, heart medication, isoniazid, nefazodone or imatinib.
  • This drug can harm a baby severely in case of pregnancy. Avoid using this drug while pregnant.
  • Avoid using this drug to curb jet lag.
  • Avoid alcohol with this drug.
  • Avoid grapefruit while on drug course.

WARNINGS –

  • Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not approved for individuals under the age of 18.
  • Contact a doctor immediately in case the patient is observed to lose memory of activities conducted during drug course.
  • Sedative effects of this drug may last longer in older adults.
  • Do not share this drug with another person, especially if they have a history of drug abuse/addiction. Misuse of this drug may lead to overdose, addiction or drug abuse.
  • In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Overdose can lead to shallow breathing, fainting, confusion or even a coma.
