ABSTRACT –

Humalog is a man-made insulin used in place of natural insulin to control blood sugar levels in diabetic patients to get faster results. It also helps in relieving from symptoms related to kidney problems, loss of sight, loss of limbs, problems in sexual functioning and nerve disorders. It works faster in the body but its effects last for a relatively short time than natural insulin. This medication is also used with other drugs related to oral diabetes. It helps to treat type 2 diabetes in adults and type 1 diabetes among adults and children.

DOSAGE –

  • Humalog has to be taken as directed by the doctors.
  • Adult dosages:
    Solution: 200 units/mL; 100 units/mL
  • General Adult Dosage available:
    Injection – 1000units/mL

PRECAUTIONS –

  • This drug contains inactive ingredients which may result in allergic reactions. So a pharmacist must be consulted before consuming it.
  • It is necessary to discuss any medical history related to kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid problems or heart disorders.
  • Since this drug makes a person dizzy so activities like driving and others which needs more attention should be avoided.
  • Limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages as it leads to the risk of low blood sugar.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH HUMALOG:

  • Use of Humalog in pregnancy may be acceptable only if the benefits exceed the risks involved.
  • Studies in animal pregnancy have shown adverse effects on fetus. But no adequate studies have been found in humans to access the damage involved.
  • Humalog transfers into breast milk and mothers should not breast-feed as it may harm the infant.

WARNINGS –

  • The use of the drug is not safe and effective in children below 3 years of age.
  • The drug is not recommended for patients suffering from low blood sugar like hypoglycemia.
  • Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
