Neurotoxicity
03 May 2019
Neurotoxicity occurs due to the interference of toxic material which disrupts the nervous system. These substances may be natural or man made; they may be biological, chemical or physical. These are called neurotoxicants or neurotoxins. Exposure to these substances can cause devastating effects to the nervous system. They may kill the neurons. Neurotoxicity can be caused due to radiation/chemotherapy, organ transplant, drug use and exposure to pesticides or other chemicals. It causes headaches, vision loss, weakness and numbness, which results due to malfunctioning brain cells. In some cases, this condition is fatal. Individuals with neurological disorders are specifically prone to Neurotoxicity. This can be treated by removing the toxin, followed by symptomatic and successive therapy.
