ABSTRACT –

Pancreatitis is an inflammation of pancreas. It’s the gland located in stomach in upper abdomen. It secretes enzymes that regulates body hormones and helps in digestion. It regulates body sugar levels by secreting insulin.

Types :
  • Chronic Pancreatitis
  • Acute Pancreatitis

CAUSES –

  • Excessive alcohol consumption and smoking
  • Gallstones
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Hereditary factors
  • High level of calcium and triglycerides in blood
  • Injury in abdomen
  • Bacterial infections

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –

  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Significant weight loss

COMPLICATIONS –

  • Breathing problems
  • Kidney failure
  • Diabetes
  • Malnutrition
  • Severe bacterial infections

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound to look for inflammation and blockages in the pancreatic duct or bile duct
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Abdominal Ultrasound to look for gallstones and pancreatic inflammation
  • Blood tests
  • Stool tests

TREATMENT –

  • Administration of Intravenous (IV) Fluids
  • Gallbladder Surgery
  • Pancreas Surgery
  • Removal of Bile Duct Obstructions
  • Medications such as pain relievers

RISK FACTORS –

  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Abdominal Surgery
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Smoking And Alcohol

PREVENTIONS –

  • Meditation, Regular exercises, Yoga
  • Acupuncture
  • Consume plenty of liquid fluids
  • Quit smoking and avoid alcohol abuse
  • Consume low diet food

  • The incidence rates has shown the range as 5 and 80 per 100,000 population worldwide.
