Generic Name : ARIPIPRAZOLE
ABSTRACT –
Aripiprazole is a prescription drug used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. It is also used with some other medications for major depression disorders in adults and in children of age 6 or above who have Tourette’s disorder or Autism. It works by balancing dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain to improve thinking ability, mood and behavior. Aripiprazole belongs to a drug class known as atypical antipsychotics.
DOSAGE –
- Aripiprazole has to be taken as directed by the doctor.
- Adult and Pediatric dosages. Tablet: 10mg, 15mg, 30mg
SIDE EFFECTS –
- Anxiety
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Headache
- Insomnia
- Muscle stiffness
- Speaking difficulty
- Restlessness
- Stiffness of limbs
- Drooling
- Loss of balance control
- Uncontrollable movements in the body
- Muscle trembling
RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- High fever
- High blood pressure
- Low blood pressure
- Excessive sweating
- Seizures
- Fainting
SHORT-TERM EFFECTS:
- Irreversible tardive dyskinesia can develop.
LONG-TERM EFFECTS:
- Prolonged use may cause blood pressure to drop.

- ProAir HFA
- Prozac
- Quetiapine
- Sertraline
- Symbicort
- Trazodone
PRECAUTIONS –
- All patients should be monitored closely.
- Patients with major depressive disorder may experience their condition worsening.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH ARIPIPRAZOLE:
- Use of this drug during pregnancy may harm the fetus as it might get transferred to breast milk.
- Animal studies showed evidence of toxicity, including teratogenic effects.
- Human studies are not available.
- Discontinue the use of Aripiprazole if lactating and use cautionary measures.
WARNINGS –
- Patients should be monitored closely.
- Chances of risk increases with elderly patients.
- In case of overdose get medical help or contact poison control immediately.
