ABSTRACT –
Aspirin is a well-known platelet aggression inhibitor that is used to reduce pain, fever or inflammation. This drug is a salicylate that reduces the factors in the body that lead to such symptoms. Aspirin is also often used as preventive medication for heart attacks, strokes or even angina. This drug has antipyretic, analgesic as well as anti-inflammatory qualities.
DOSAGE –
-
- Aspirin is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- The regular tablets are to be consumed whole without being crushed.
- It is recommended to have this drug with food to avoid upset stomach.
- General Adult Dosage available:
Oral tablet – 500mg, 800mg (every 4-6 hours; often used as needed)

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of asthma, stomach ulcers, liver/kidney diseases, blood clot disorders, gout or any heart conditions.
- Do not consume this drug in case of an allergic reaction to this drug or any NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug), hemophilia or recent intestinal bleeding.
- Do not consume this drug during the last few stages of pregnancy to avoid severe bleeding during delivery.
- Do not nurse while on drug course, as Aspirin can transfer through breast milk and cause harm to the newborn.
- Avoid heavy amounts of alcohol while on drug course.
- Avoid Ibuprofen while on drug course, as it makes the drug less effective.
- Notify a surgeon beforehand of Aspirin intake in case of upcoming surgery.
WARNINGS –
- Do not use this drug in case there is a strong odor of vinegar within the bottle.
- Keep out of reach of children. This drug should not be given especially to children or adolescents with fever, flu or chicken pox. This drug can sometimes cause a fatal condition in children, called Reye’s syndrome.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Symptoms of overdose include seizures, coma or even temporary hearing loss.
