Generic Name : BISOPROLOL
ABSTRACT –
Bisoprolol is a drug that is used to treat hypertensive blood pressure by completely blocking beta-1 receptors and making changes to the heart and blood circulation. This drug is classified as an ‘antihypertensive beta blocker’ and is generally advertised as Zebeta [DSC].
DOSAGE –
- Bisoprolol is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- Bisoprolol may vary in strength and intensity of dosage depending on various conditions, progress and circumstances. Report your observations to the doctor regularly to note changes in strengths of dosage.
- Do not skip doses unless the doctor advises you to. Skipping doses may adversely affect the circulatory system or blood pressure.
- General Adult Dosage: Oral tablet – 5mg per day (this can go upto 20mg)
SIDE EFFECTS –
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Insomnia
- Joint pain
- Swelling
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- Chest congestion
- Dizziness
- Faintness
- Irregular palpitations
- Allergic reactions such as difficulty in breathing, hives, rashes, facial swelling.

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide your doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history before drug prescription. Notify your doctor especially in case of coronary heart disease, blood circulation problems, asthma, COPD, diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease or other heart conditions.
- Notify your doctor before drug prescription, in case you are using certain drugs such as insulin, rifampin or other heart blood pressure medications.
- You must not use Bisoprolol in case of – an allergy to the drug, serious heart conditions like AV blocks, arrhythmia or severe heart failure
- Let your doctor know in case you are planning for surgery before drug prescription.
- Co-operate for regular health check-ups and testing of blood pressure.
- Minimize drinking alcohol while on drug course as it may cause severe interactions in some cases.
WARNINGS –
- Keep out of reach of children. Bisoprolol is not recommended to any patient under the age of 18.
- Do not engage in complicated activities that demand your entire attention, such as driving or getting up too soon while on drug course.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
