ABSTRACT –

Bupropion is an antidepressant medication that is generally used to treat major depressive disorder as well as seasonal affective disorder. Although considered as one of the weaker agents that prevent reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, this drug is also used to treat smoking addiction while reducing withdrawal symptoms.

DOSAGE –

  • Biotin is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Avoid consuming more than is prescribed to avoid harmful side effects and overdose. Do not stop consuming this drug unless recommended, to avoid sudden withdrawal symptoms.
  • Swallow the extended-release tablet whole, without chewing or crushing it.
  • General Adult Dosage –
  • Oral – hydrobromide 174mg/24 hours, hydrobromide 348/24 hours.

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses or conditions such as seizures, brain tumors, narrow-angle glaucoma, heart conditions, hypertension, diabetic conditions, kidney/liver disease, mental illnesses or alcoholism.
  • Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to the drug itself, or in case of a recent history of eating disorders, seizure disorders or the sudden cessation of alcohol use.
  • Do not use an MAO inhibitor 14 days prior-and-post the consumption of Bupropion.
  • Provide the doctor with a detailed list of all drugs being taken, to avoid severe drug interactions.
  • Do not nurse while using this drug as it may transfer through breast milk.
  • Cooperate with additional therapy sessions and other medications suggested by the doctor to ensure effective cure.
  • Strictly avoid alcohol while on drug course.

WARNINGS –

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid activities that may lead to injuries while on drug course.
  • Use this drug to treat one condition at a time, to avoid overdose.
  • This drug can cause seizures, especially in case of pre-existing medical conditions. Consult a doctor immediately with regards to a seizure disorder that is present while on drug course.
  • This drug can cause suicidal tendencies or depressing behavior. The patient is to be surrounded by supportive associates while on drug course.
  • Smoking withdrawal may cause withdrawal symptoms that may be severe – increased appetite, restlessness, mood fluctuations, weight gain or irritations – may occur.
  • This drug can alter urine tests results; hence, it is important to notify an examiner prior to medical examinations.
  • Contact an emergency helpline in case of overdose, as this can be fatal. Symptoms of overdose include uneven heartbeat, difficulty breathing, muscle stiffness or even fainting.
