Generic Name : EXENATIDE

ABSTRACT –

Bydureon is classified under the drug class ‘Incretin Mimetics’. In combination with appropriate diet plans and exercise, this drug is proven to be effective in bringing blood sugar levels under control in patients that suffer from type 2 diabetes mellitus. This extended-release injectable medication influences the pancreas to produce insulin more efficiently.

DOSAGE –

  • Bydureon is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Consume this drug only as prescribed to avoid overdose or other harmful effects.
  • This drug is available as a powder that is to be mixed with proportionate amounts of a diluent.
  • This drug is to be administered under the skin immediately after mixing, once in a week at any time of the day.

Bydureon has moderate interactions with 302 different drugs.

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses or conditions such as kidney / liver diseases, digestion problems, pancreatitis, alcoholism or high levels of triglycerides.
  • Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to the drug itself, or in case of severe kidney diseases, stomach disorders that slow digestion, diabetic ketoacidosis, history of thyroid cancer, or MEN 2 (Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2).
  • Inform the doctor of all the drugs being consumed so as to avoid severe drug interactions.
  • Follow through with appropriate diet plans and exercise for best results.
  • Avoid alcohol while on drug course as it can lower blood sugar levels.

WARNINGS –

  • Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not recommended for anyone under the age of 18.
  • This drug cannot be used to treat type 1 diabetes.
  • Disposable needles and syringes are to be only used once.
  • Contact a doctor immediately and stop drug consumption in case of severe pain in the upper stomach, accompanied by nausea / vomiting or symptoms of pancreatitis.
  • Contact a doctor immediately in case of symptoms of hypoglycemia – symptoms include sweating, dizziness, nausea, anxiety and restlessness. Use an emergency glucagon kit to treat severe hypoglycemia.
  • In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe vomiting, hypoglycemia and shakiness.
