Toxoplasmosis is an infection occurs due to Toxoplasma gondii, a single-celled parasite which results in flu-like symptoms. Healthy and non-pregnant patients do not require treatment but for others, this condition can lead to severe complications. Congenital toxoplasmosis can develop hearing loss, mental disabilities and blindness in children.
CAUSES –
- Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) parasite
- Contaminated food or water
- Eating improperly cooked food
- Using contaminated knife, utensils or cutting boards
- Eating unwashed fruits and vegetables
- Infected cat’s feces
- Transmission from mother to child in the womb
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –
- Body pain
- Headache
- Inflamed lymph nodes
- Fever
- Fatigue
Following symptoms can occur in severe cases:
- Lung infection
- Seizures
- Vision problems
- Jaundice
