Hydrea is used to treat leukemia. People with sickle cell anemia use this medication to relax the pain caused by it. It also works by reducing the necessity for blood transfusions in the body and to treat certain cancers related to head and neck.
DOSAGE –
- Hydrea has to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- Adult and pediatric dosages: Tablet: >60 years of age – 15 mg per day <60 years of age – 7.5 mg per day

PRECAUTIONS –
- This drug contains inactive ingredients which may result in allergic reactions. So a pharmacist must be consulted before consuming it.
- It is necessary to discuss any medical history related to kidney disease, bone marrow disorders, HIV infection, liver disease, high uric acid, and anemia.
- Avoid contact with people who have infectious diseases like measles and flu.
- Restrict taking vaccinations and immunizations without consulting the doctor.
- The use of this drug might reduce the sperm fertility.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH HYDREA:
- Use of Hydrea in pregnancy is not recommended.
- Studies in animal pregnancy have shown adverse effects on fetus. But no adequate studies have been found in humans to access the damage involved.
- Hydrea transfers into breast milk and breast-feeding might adversely affect the infant hence do not nurse while on drug course.
WARNINGS –
- Do not consume drugs named didanosine or stavudine while on drug course as it can give rise to major interactions.
- Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
