Generic Name : MEPERIDINE

ABSTRACT –

Demerol is a medication drug that is classified as a narcotic analgesic and is used in place of non-opioid medication to relieve short-term pains. It is an opioid that is only used in the circumstance where other medications prove inefficiency, as this drug can lead to substance abuse or opioid addiction.

DOSAGE –

  • Demerol is to be taken as directed by the doctors. This drug must be administered with care.
  • Do not terminate drug course suddenly unless advised. Withdrawal symptoms may occur and can be very severe if not managed well.
  • Demerol tablets must be consumed whole without crushing or breaking it for any purpose. Leftover tablets must be discarded.
  • General Adult Dosage available:
  • Oral tablet – 50-150mg (every 3-4 hours, as needed)

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of head injuries, brain tumors, breathing problems, substance addictions, stomach blockage, difficulty in urination, liver / kidney disease, sick cell anemia or problems with the adrenal gland.
  • Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to Demerol, asthmatic conditions or a blockage in the stomach.
  • Do not use this drug in case of the usage of an MAO inhibitor in the 14 days prior to drug consumption.
  • Do not consume this drug while pregnant, as Demerol can cause dependency in the child.
  • Do not consume this drug while nursing, as it may transfer through breast milk and cause difficulties for the feeding newborn.
  • Avoid alcohol strictly, while on drug course.
  • Avoid any drug that can slow breathing or heart rate while on drug course.

WARNINGS –

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid complicated activities such as driving that may demand complete concentration, while on drug course to avoid accidents.
  • Use as per prescription. Do not stop using Demerol suddenly, to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms.
  • This drug can cause substance abuse, dependency, addiction and eventually lead to fatal side effects or even death, if misused. Use this drug only as per advice.
  • In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Overdose can cause color of skin to change, coma, fainting or even death.
