Generic Name : RALOXIFENE
ABSTRACT –
Evista is a medication drug that is used to treat osteoporosis and prevent invasive breast cancer in post-menopausal women. This drug is classified as a selective estrogen receptor modulator that influences the manner in which bone formation/breakdown occurs in the body, thus reducing the rate at which bone tissue loss (osteoporosis) occurs. Evista is also an antineoplastic agent.
DOSAGE –
- Evista is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Consume this drug only as prescribed to avoid overdose or other harmful effects.
- This drug is to be taken at the same time every day with/without food.

Oral – 60mg per day

- Cramps in the leg
- Swelling in the limbs
- Hot flashes
- Pain in the joints
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Sweating
RARE SIDE EFFECTS –
- Symptoms of stroke
- Blood clots in the lungs
- Blood clots in other parts of the body
- Swelling around or on the breasts

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses or conditions such as heart conditions, hypertension, cancer, smoking habits, blood clots, liver / kidney diseases, endometriosis, abnormal vaginal bleeding or high triglycerides in the body due to usage of estrogen.
- Do not use this drug while pregnant, as it is meant for post-menopausal women.
- Do not nurse while on drug course, as Evista may transfer through breast milk and harm the newborn.
- The patient may need to stop taking the drug 3 days before a major surgery. Consult the surgeon with regards to the drug intake during the discussion of a surgery itself.
- Cooperate with healthy diet plans and exercise schedules that will accompany the drug course, for effective results.
- Self-examination and regular check-ups should take place every often, during drug course.
- Inform the doctor of all the drugs being consumed so as to avoid severe drug interactions.
- Do not sit still while traveling for long durations of time on drug course.
- Take calcium supplements only as required (and as prescribed by a doctor) while on drug course.
WARNINGS –
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Doctors/Examiners must wear rubber gloves while handling the patient and this drug can pass through their bodily fluids.
- This drug can increase risk of fatal stroke or blood clots in specific parts of the body.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
