Generic Name : SOMATROPIN

ABSTRACT –

Genotropin is an artificially created human growth hormone that is used to treat growth failure in children as well as adults that suffer from a lack of natural growth hormones due to conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome and other conditions where catch-up growth did not occur. This hormone is crucial for the natural growth of muscles as well as bones.

DOSAGE –

  • Genotropin is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Consume this drug only as prescribed to avoid overdose or other harmful effects. Dosage and brand generally varies dependent on condition.
  • This drug is injected subcutaneously or through a muscle. Self-administering can be learned.

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses and conditions such as cancer, diabetic conditions, pituitary gland disorder, scoliosis, underactive thyroid, head injuries or brain cancer.
  • Do not use this drug in case of an allergy to Genotropin / benzyl alcohol itself, or in case of serious illnesses, active cancer, eye problems due to diabetes or severe breathing problems.
  • Prepare injection only at time of administering and dispose of expired injections.
  • Follow diet and exercise plans as prescribed by a doctor.
  • Cooperate with frequent and regular medical tests during drug course to ensure good health.
  • Inform the doctor of all the drugs being consumed so as to avoid severe drug interactions. Notify especially in case of birth control pills, insulin or steroids.
  • Consult a doctor whether this drug can be used during pregnancy and nursing, for this varies from condition to condition.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol in case of short-bowel syndrome.

WARNINGS –

  • Keep out of reach of children. Consult a doctor before using this drug for a child, as certain brands of this drug cannot be used for children.
  • This drug can cause alterations in certain medical tests. Tell a medical examiner prior to a test of the drug consumption.
  • In case of long-term use, this drug can cause excessive growth.
  • In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Symptoms of overdose include increased hunger, headache, fast heartbeat and nausea.
