Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disorder that attacks the brain and spinal cord which damages the nervous system. It can affect the myelin (membrane surrounding nerve cells) which therefore causes solidification of the cell and disruption in neuron transmission. Symptoms of sclerosis includes numbness, weakness, twitching or spasms in muscles, vision troubles and slurred speech. Therefore Sclerosis is just like any other neurological disorder and can cause complications like depression, epilepsy and paralysis. Hence it is important to detect it and commence treatment as soon as possible. Drugs used for treatment of Sclerosis include: Fingolimod, Mitoxantrone and Natalizumab. A sclerosis patient is advised to avoid heat and maintain a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet.
