PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER

ABSTRACT –

Paranoid Personality Disorder (PPD) is a type of weird personality condition in which a person behaves odd or unusual to others. An individual with this behavior believes that others want to harm them and are dishonest to them. They tend to think that they are in danger and keeps on looking for the signs and fears of the danger with a feeling of suspicion.

CAUSES –

The exact cause is unknown but these could be one of the reasons:

  • Negative childhood life experiences
  • Combination of biological and environmental factors
  • Hereditary factors
  • Mental disturbances

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Angry and hostile behavior
  • Distrusting and suspicious
  • Doubt the commitment, loyalty or trustworthiness of others
  • Loneliness
  • Absent-mindedness

COMPLICATIONS –

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Physical examination
  • Comprehensive assessment and interview about school, childhood and work
  • Counselling

TREATMENT –

  • Helping individuals in social gatherings
  • Medications such as antidepressants, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics
  • Talk Therapy
  • Psychotherapy

RISK FACTORS –

  • Traumatic life experiences
  • Seclusion and quietness

PREVENTIONS –

It is not possible to avoid PPD but it can be prevented by:

  • Communication with family and friends
  • Avoiding isolation
  • Surrounding in happy places
  • Keeping mood enlightened

EPIDEMIOLOGY –

  • Adults and adolescents are more prone to get affected from Paranoid Personality Disorder.
  • It has been observed more in males than females.
