Parkinsons linked to Appendix
20 Nov 2018
According to a research reported in Science Translational Medicine, a new clue on the place of origin of the Parkinson’s disease has been found which hints that the appendix is the place of origin and not the brain. Research based on this focuses on the appendix acting as a storage for a type of abnormal protein that could become a major link to the disease. Medical records of nearly 1.7 million people who had their appendix removed earlier in life showed less risk of getting Parkinson’s disease. The researchers has cautioned that the research is still in work and people should not seek appendectomy as there are people who gets Parkinson’s even without having an appendix.
