ABSTRACT –

Tinnitus is a situation where people feel a sensation of a noise or ringing in the ears. Tinnitus is not a condition, it is rather a symptom of problems arising in the ear such as hearing loss, ear injury and circulatory system disorder. Tinnitus is not a serious condition but it can get worsen with age if it is left untreated. Treatment of tinnitus also includes the identification and treatment of other underlying conditions.

Types-

  • Subjective Tinnitus – Only a patient can hear
  • Objective Tinnitus – Doctors can also hear along with the patient during physical examination

CAUSES –

  • Ageing
  • Exposure to noise polluted environment
  • Earwax accumulation
  • Abnormal ear bone growth
  • Head or neck injury
  • High blood pressure
  • Muscle contractions in the ears

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –

  • Excessive earwax removal
  • Prescribed medications for noise suppression
  • Treatment of underlying conditions

  • Noise pollution in surrounding
  • Smoking abuse
  • Cardiovascular problems like high blood pressure, narrowed arteries

PREVENTION –

  • Avoid noise polluted area
  • Listen music with low volume
  • Maintain cardiovascular health

  • Estimation shows that the condition has a prevalence rate of 360 million people worldwide.n
