Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological disorder which causes the patients to produce involuntary movements and sounds called tics. These cannot be controlled by the patients and are sometimes accompanied by temporary disfigurement of facial features. Males are more likely to get affected by Tourette’s syndrome than women. These occur mostly when a person is 6 years old and the effect lessens as one progresses into teenage. There is no cure for Tourette’s. However, treatment is available for worst cases. Tourette’s only causes minor inconvenience and usually does not require treatment. Although, the cause of Tourette’s is still unknown. It is speculated that it may be a genetic disorder or may be caused due to problems in the nervous system. It is a topic of great research for scientists and doctors.
