Vitamin B4 is no longer a vitamin. It refers to chemical compounds such as choline, adenine or carnitine. It was first considered as a vitamin due to its similarities but removed from the list. Choline is synthesized in the human body and is essential for structural integrity of cells etc. Adenine is also synthesized by the body and is a nucleobase for forming nucleotides of nucleic acid. Carnitine is an ammonium compound used to transport fatty acids and is essential for certain worms, mammals etc. Pharmaceutical companies makes dietary supplements and other medications like pain killers out of these compounds.
