Vitamin K1, also known as phytomenadione or phylloquinone, is a fat soluble vitamin used to treat certain bleeding disorders caused by warfarin overdose, vitamin K deficiency, obstructive jaundice, to prevent and cure hemorrhagic diseases of newborn babies and used as dietary supplement. Sources are corn oil, vegetable oil, prawns, bananas, apples, kale, spinach etc. Other ways to take vitamin K1 is by orally or subcutaneous injection. If difficult, intramuscular injection or injection into veins are preferred. WHO has placed it in the List of Essential Medicines as one of the most effective and safe medicine needed in a healthy body.
