Vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone, helps in lowering risk of heart diseases and also carboxylates proteins. Its role in bone strength, arterial health and other various functions are yet to be studied. Vitamin K2 is absorbed better and therefore it stays longer in the bloodstream. Deficiency causes bone and overall health damage. Sources are bacteria fermented foods like cheese, natto, meat, eggs, dairy products etc. Vitamin K2 can be made from vitamin K1 so it’s advised to have food rich in vitamin K1 as well. Supplements are also made by pharmaceutical companies but should be taken with doctor’s advice.
