Guillain Barre Syndrome
03 Apr 2019
When the immune system of a person’s body, mistakenly attacks its own peripheral nervous system, it leads to a very rare neurological affliction called Guillain-Barré Syndrome. This is not a lethal disease and most people recover from it, although weakness persists. Since the body’s own immune system does the damage, this disease is also called an auto-immune disease, where the immune system targets the healthy nerves. Symptoms to this would be unusual uncomfortable bodily functions like digestive problems and tingling sensations. These symptoms keep increasing till a muscle cannot work and body is paralyzed. However, there may not always be paralysis, just weakness. This disease may only be fatal in case of paralysis.
