Generic Name : TENORMIN
ABSTRACT –
Atenolol is a cardio-selective beta-blocker that is generally used in patients with heart conditions such as angina or hypertensive blood pressure. This drug reduces the risk of sudden death after a heart attack by selectively blocking beta1-receptors and affecting the circulation of blood flow throughout arteries, veins and the heart.
DOSAGE –

- Atenolol is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Dosage may vary from time to time. Do not suddenly stop taking this drug, unless advised by a doctor as such. In certain cases, Atenolol may be accompanied by other drugs as well.
- This drug generally takes 2 weeks to affect the circulatory system in its complete potential.
- General Adult Dosage available:
Oral tablet – 25mg, 50mg, 100mg (once a day)
Solution form – 0.5mg/mL

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of any heart conditions, asthmatic conditions, diabetes, thyroid problems, liver / kidney disease, adrenal gland tumors or Raynaud’s syndrome.
- Provide the doctor a list of all drugs that are consumed at the time of prescription.
- Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to Atenolol itself, or in case of AV blocks, irregular/slow heartbeats, or decompensated heart failure.
- Follow diet plan and exercise programs that are generally accompanied by Atenolol for effective results.
- Avoid using this drug while pregnant or while breast-feeding, as it may harm the child.
- Notify a surgeon of the drug intake in case of an upcoming surgery.
WARNINGS –
- Take care not to engage in complicated activities such as driving, that require one’s full alertness; as this drug can impair thinking and affect reaction time.
- Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not approved for any individual under the age of 18.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Symptoms of overdose generally include weakness, weak heart rate, difficulty breathing, or fainting.
