3D printer makes a heart model
Researchers at Tel Aviv University of Israel were able to create the sample of a heart just with the help of a 3D printer. This has been made possible by using bio-inks made of extracellular matrix material and human cells. These are assembled and organized in layers to form swaths of tissues that may serve as myocardium. In the report published by the journal of Advanced Science, they have claimed to form similar heart models with endothelial and myocyte cells. The models created are good conductors of electricity and are fit to be used as alternatives to the organs. They claim that these tissues are unlikely to trigger rejecting reaction from the immune system when placed in the body. Yet, there are some complications and structural challenges which are needed to improve the model, but researchers do not want to oversell technology and are working on it.
